Banff Film Festival Dazzles Despite Snow

On Friday the 5th and Saturday the 6th, Camden Hills Regional High School hosted the Banff Mountain Film Festival. Many people trekked through the snow to enjoy wonderful international films that had competed for an opportunity to be in the show. These were films about topics including, adventure, culture, beauty, and friendship. The Banff Film Festival just celebrated its fortieth anniversary, and is now being shown in over 40 countries. On Saturday The Storm showed eleven films, some of the titles include “Dark Light”, an award winning film that follows skiers down the slopes at night, “Project Mina”, which showed the life of a professional climber while participating in the world cup bouldering circuit, “Paradise Waits”, a Banff special edit about a free skier and big mountain skier enjoying the snow, “Denali”, an emotional goodbye to mans best friend. Saturday’s nights showings included nine films, some of the titles were, “Last Dragons”, that captures a glimpse at North ‘America’s Eastern Hellbender’ an ancient salamander, “Curiosity” a film about three “ultra-marathoners” preparing for the Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc, and “unReal” that takes a closer look at mountain biking. Every film shown at the festival was one of a kind and full of energy, and a great way to start the new semester and year!
